How to use the VR Boxing Calculator

Fueling Food's VR boxing calorie calculator was built for exercise enthusiast and people looking to burn some extra calories without jogging or other boring forms of cardio. To use it, simply enter your weight, how long you were boxing, and the intensity of your boxing session. If you're not sure how intensely your session was refer to this friendly guide.

  1. Light - You were largely sationary and throwing basic jabs, crosses, and the occasional hook.

  2. Moderate - A little more intense than lightwork. If you were not stationary and fighting the computer on Normal or Endurance in Thrill of the Fight, this is the intensity for you.

  3. Intense - If you were bobbing and weaving like prime Mike Tyson on the highest difficulty settings possible, chances are you were engaged in an intense session.

But honestly, it’s more than just numbers on a screen. VR boxing is a legit workout, and I want to share a few things from my own routine that might help you get more out of it or avoid some mistakes I made early on.

My VR Boxing Warm-Up Routine

I always start with a 2-minute warm-up round against the training dummy. No stress, no pressure, just moving around and getting the blood flowing. After that, I hit some deep stretches, especially for my shoulders, back, and legs. If you skip this and you're over 30, you'll be sorry...trust me. VR boxing has you twisting, ducking, and throwing nonstop punches, and trust me, it's easy to pull something if you're tight.

I also keep a big bottle of water nearby with Liquid I.V. powder mixed in. You will sweat. A lot. Especially if you're fighting Iron Skull or doing back-to-back rounds. The electrolytes help me avoid that lightheaded, gassed-out feeling.

One thing that really stepped up my sessions? Weighted gloves. I use 2-pound gloves right now. Doesn't sound like much, but midway through the second round your arms will feel like they're filled with cement. It adds just the right level of resistance to make each punch matter. That said, go easy the first few times or your shoulders will hate you.

Important Warnings (Don't Skip This)

Here's something personal that I haven't really seen anyone talk about. I sweat a lot when I'm boxing, and if I don't wipe down my headset and wash my face right after, or even in between rounds, I end up with a painful stye on my eyelid. It's like having a bruise every time I blink, and it looks like I lost a real fight. It might just be me, but I think people with naturally oily skin are more likely to get them from all the trapped sweat and grime.

Now, I keep face wipes right next to me and a clean microfiber cloth just for the headset. Quick wipes between rounds and a good rinse after the session completely fixed the problem for me. Might save you some pain and embarrassment too.
